THE Matungu killings that left over 100 people dead and dozens injured two years ago have come back to haunt Former Minister Rashid Achesa Mouhamed. Mr. Achesa whose appointment was vacated by President Uhuru Kenyatta after he was mentioned in criminal activities is today confronted by the Matungu ghosts. Achesa who is fronting shadowy and corrupt contractor Alex Lanya as a contestant in the Matungu polls will defiantly have it rough selling his candidate. Lanya, an accomplished thief whose contractual companies have defaulted on KRA tax payment and have long not renewed NCA certification, is credited with substandard projects in the Matungu CDF and partly faulty ECD centers in Kakamega. THREE Chief Officers at the Kakamega County Government have gone underground following last week's raid by EACC sleiths. Education Chief Officer Mrs.Irene Ashioya, Public Works Mr. Joseph Sweta and Economic Planning Laurence Omuhaka took off last week as a team of 23 officers landed in Kakamega.  The officers including accountants, human resource managers and auditors have pitched up a fully fledged Office at the County Headquarters.  The score of the officers is to investigate multi million World Bank projects across the county under the public Works docket where millions of donor cash were diverted to personal use.  Such monies, according to Investigations is part of the loot that was used to buy  several acres of land on which Governor Whycliffe Oparanya has put up his private home in Likuyani. 40 ELDERS from Lugari Constituency are looking for a well wisher with who to partner for rehabilitation help on their MP Ayub Savula.  Speaking in Kakamega town the elders led by Michael Luchivya said they were seeking audience with the individuals or Companies to help raise funds that can rehabilitate their MP who they claim is an alcoholic.  The elders are calling on cooperates or individuals in Kakamega or away to help contribute to their proposal to the effect.  "unfortunately we don't have a rehabilitation center in Kakamega and we hope someone of good standing can also get us well wishers to help in making sure that our MP is not completely consumed in alcohol". At least seven Cabinet Secretaries, 11 governors and 7 MPs are on the Director of Public Prosecutions’ radar for corruption. This is according to the high voltage files DPP Noordin Haji handed to President Uhuru Kenyatta recently. The Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has registered cases worth Sh224 billion involving top government officials in the last three years. The 53 cases on corruption allegations involve seven Cabinet Secretaries and Permanent Secretaries, 11 governors and senior county officials, 22 directors and chief executive officers, and seven MPs. Noordin Haji noted they have filed the cases, despite various challenges that require a high level of expertise to prosecute. It is the taxpayers’ money held in litigation that the prosecution office is legally battling to recover, using a new strategy as it faces it off in court with a battery of lawyers hired by the prominent personalities.
